Captured Rooms
Utilizing a range of impulse response measuring techniques, we
captured the acoustic nuances of various spaces, from the iconic
"Grossmünster" Church to the underground parking of the luxurious
"Dolder Grand Hotel," along with a tennis court and the public bath
in Altstätten, Zurich.
These measurements became the foundation for an effect that
characterizes all sound passed through it with the essence of these
spaces, as if it were originally recorded onsite. To illustrate this
effect, we crafted three cubes, each representing a space we
measured, and placed them within a room equipped with an
eight-speaker surround sound setup. By speaking into these cubes,
sounds were recorded and played back, transporting listeners to the
corresponding location and creating surreal moments of misplacement.
Our goal was to hijack this notion of capturing a room in a way,
that not only the sonic characteristics of a space is captured but
rather the visitors themselves get trapped in a these spaces. Which
leads to an infinitely cascading set of imaginary rooms being
created in your subconsciousness.
